Certification Revalidation

Let's Keep Going!

Welcome back, and thank you for continuing your commitment to excellence in ASL teaching! We are thrilled to support you in revalidating your certification. Our program remains our pride, as it is the only national-level certification for ASL teaching, and your dedication is what upholds its value. This page is your guide to reaffirming your professional standing for another four years. We encourage you to carefully review each step of the revalidation process outlined below. Your thorough completion of these stages is essential for a seamless renewal of your ASLTA certification.

The ASLTA certification validation form can be found at the bottom of this page.

The ASL version of our Certification Revalidation procedure is currently in production.

Step 1: ASLTA Membership

You must have an ASLTA Certified-level membership before you can begin the ASLTA Certification revalidation.

If you’re already an Certified-level member, please proceed to the next step.

If you need to join ASLTA or renew your ASLTA membership, click here.

Step 2: Certification Status

To apply for certification revalidation for another four years, your current certification’s validity must soon expire within less than a year.

Suppose your certification has been voided due to missed membership dues, you must complete the certification revival process and pay the $150 fee before starting the revalidation process.

If your certification is voided for any reason other than missing membership dues, you will need to complete the recertification process. To learn more about the process, click here.

Step 3: Review Requirements

A critical step that requires your careful review of the certification maintenance criteria for our four certifications. You can download and review the PDF file of the certification maintenance requirements chart. You will need to provide documentation showing you meet each requirement.

You are encouraged to collect all of the required documentation before proceeding with the ASLTA certification revalidation application.

Step 4: Your Professional Development Folder

Before proceeding with the certification revalidation process, please update your professional development folder in Google Drive – one that the Evaluation and Certification Director shared with you when you received the news that your certification application was approved.

If you have not received it or are unable to locate the Google Drive folder, please contact our Evaluation and Certification Director at Evaluations@ASLTA.org.

Your folder should be filled with evidence of your activities, including but not limited to attendance certifications, a copy of a published work, and a letter of service.

Note: Your activities must be related to ASL education and Deaf Studies disciplines. Any ASL interpretation related activities will not be counted towards the requirement. Our Professional Development Director and Evaluation & Certifications Director reserve the right to reject activities that do not meet ASLTA’s certification revalidation requirements.

Step 5: Revalidation Form

Now that you have reviewed the requirements for ASLTA certification revalidation and your professional development folder is updated, please continue with the remaining steps below, and then submit the form at the bottom of this page.

If your ASLTA membership is not current, your application will not proceed. It is your responsibility to ensure your membership is current. Verify your membership status by checking your ASLTA profile or contacting Treasurer@ASLTA.org.

Step 6: Revalidation Result

Depending on which certification, either the Professional Development Director or the Evaluation and Certification Director will review and determine whether you have met our certification revalidation requirements. There are two possible outcomes:

Approved: One of our Directors has verified that you have completed the revalidation requirements and granted you an updated certification with new validity dates.

Not Approved: One of our Directors has reviewed your folder and found that you have not met the requirements and can not revalidate your certification. You have the following three options to move forward:

  1. Work with the Director to see if there’s anything that you can modify or add to your folder.
  2. Request a two-year extension. The additional time will come from your next certification’s validity dates – this means you will be required to revalidate your certification again in two years after the extension.
  3. Allow your certification to remain voided and become an Associate member. You can apply for recertification in the future.
