Website Speak! Language Center

A 22 year-old language education business

This is a remote, independent-contractor position providing personalized one-on-one and small-group online instruction. Our students include adults, teens, and children and come to us with a wide variety of goals and interests.

Founded in 2004, Speak! Language Center provides personalized language and communication training to individuals, universities, businesses, and organizations. Our teaching philosophy emphasizes real-world communication, cultural understanding, and instruction tailored to each learner’s goals. We have offered in-person ASL instruction in the past and are now looking to expand our ASL offerings through live online private lessons and, potentially, small-group classes.

What we’re looking for:

• High level of proficiency in American Sign Language
• Experience teaching ASL to learners of different ages and proficiency levels
• Experience teaching adults as well as children and teens is a plus
• Strong knowledge of Deaf culture and the ability to integrate cultural understanding into instruction
• An engaging, communicative, and learner-centered teaching style
• Ability to tailor lessons to individual students’ goals, interests, ages, and learning styles
• Comfort teaching online via Zoom
• Reliable communication and professional follow-through
• ASLTA certification and/or academic training in ASL, Deaf Studies, ASL education, or a related field is preferred but not required

We especially welcome applications from Deaf and hard-of-hearing ASL educators and instructors with strong connections to the Deaf community.

This is a flexible contract opportunity. Teaching hours will depend on student enrollment and instructor availability and may include private lessons, semi-private lessons, and small-group classes.

Compensation: $30–$40 per instructional hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

To apply, please submit a résumé and a brief introduction describing your ASL teaching experience, the ages and levels you have taught, curriculum used and your general availability.
