In Our Hands

ASLTA Book Club

Let’s explore texts and literature that widen our understanding and deepen our appreciation of American Sign Language, the Deaf community, and its rich culture. Connect with other educators, share insights, and strengthen our community. Together, we’ll enhance our knowledge and gain new perspectives, inspiring ourselves and allowing us to share newfound insights with our students.

Why the Name?

Relevance: It directly references the core of ASL communication – the use of hands.

Empowerment: The name suggests taking ownership and responsibility for the learning and growth of both the teachers and their students.

Community: It evokes a sense of shared purpose and collective effort.

Openness: It has a positive connotation and doesn’t limit the scope of the club’s focus.
