ASLTA’s Professional Affiliations
ASLTA supports other non-profit organizations and associations that are related to ASLTA’s mission and / or promote the needs and interests of ASLTA’s membership. Supporting the missions of these organizations assist ASLTA in promoting high standards for ASL education in heritage and world language contexts, and ensures ASL and ASLTA are visible to stakeholders across the country.

American Association of the DeafBlind (AADB)
The AADB advocates for the full integration of DeafBlind individuals into the community, the work world, and more. ASLTA warmly embraces DeafBlind members and supports the objectives of the AADB.

American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL)
ACTFL advocates for the improvement and expansion of teaching and learning all languages, and serves as an umbrella advocacy organization for more than 30 national language associations (including ASLTA). ACTFL and ASLTA collaborate to develop national ASL standards and Can-Do Statements for ASL learners.

Conference of Interpreter Trainers (CIT)
CIT is the professional organization of interpreter trainers who work with individuals studying to become interpreters. CIT and ASLTA have been sister organizations engaged in mutual support for more than 20 years.

Council de Manos
Council de Manos is a national organization dedicated to the Deaf and hard of hearing Latinx community that promotes empowerment, preservation of Latinx culture, heritage and values, and leadership training. ASLTA values its Latinx members and welcomes the experience and unique insight Latinx members bring to ASLTA and the teaching of ASL.

Council on Education of the Deaf (CED)
CED is a consortium of several national associations dedicated to ensuring Deaf and hard of hearing students have access to quality education, which includes creating standards for Deaf Education instructors. ASLTA advocates for raising minimum ASL proficiency standards for students in Deaf Education programs, which has a direct impact on the achievement of Deaf students.

National Asian Deaf Congress (NADC)
The NADC promotes cultural and ethnic pride for Deaf and hard of hearing Asians and their families. ASLTA values the diversity of backgrounds and experiences of individuals represented by the NADC and is proud to support the organization.

National Association of the Deaf (NAD)
The NAD advocates for the civil, legal, and educational rights of Deaf and heard of hearing people. NAD’s legislative efforts to promote, secure, and defend access to ASL makes ASLTA and NAD natural partners.

National Black Deaf Advocates (NBDA)
The NBDA promotes leadership development, economic and educational opportunities, and social equality for Black Deaf and hard of hearing individuals. ASLTA recognizes the influence Black ASL has had and continues to have on ASL, and values the unique insight and contributions Black teachers have in the ASL classroom.

Sacred Circle
Sacred Circle is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the history, values, and cultural traditions of Deaf Native Americans. The influence of Native sign languages on ASL is a rich legacy, and ASLTA is proud to support Sacred Circle.
